Nebraska; “Home of Arbor Day” is what you will see on a sign entering Nebraska. I will echo that we definitely are the Arbor Day state and Nebraska City does an excellent job making sure the spirit of planting trees stays alive. Visitors can take part in the history of Arbor Day all year long at Arbor Day Farm and the Arbor Lodge Mansion which was home to Sterling J. Morton.

There is so much to do and see at Arbor Day Farm, both kids and adults will enjoy it all. Go on an adventure down the trails to Treetop Village. Along the trail you can climb a tree, play with wooden blocks, learn about pollinators, zip down a slide, play some games and get a snack (I recommend the apple nachos). The Treetop Village has 11 different treehouses all connected by bridges and netted walkways. When I was there a couple weeks ago, whole families were having fun so that is why I say kids and adults will enjoy it (I know I did very much).

While you are visiting, stop into the Apple Market and enjoy a nice glass of wine or a beer. This is a short 45 minute drive from Omaha and Lincoln, so load up some of your friends and make a good afternoon out of the adventure.

At the end of the night if you are looking to wind down I recommend going to the Lied Lodge for some dinner and a drink at the Timbers restaurant or in the Library Lounge. The Lied Lodge also provides a full hotel for guests to get a good nights rest.

I am sure I did not cover everything in this blog post, but I hope I have convinced you to visit Nebraska City and see Arbor Day Farm for yourself. I have been several times and I know I will visit again.
