Nebraska State Fair Day 5

Today I was not at the fair. It was my day off so I traveled to a few different places in Nebraska. Be on the look out for blogs on those places as soon as I get them written up in the next week!

Thanks to all my fans who continue to read my blog and I am excited to keep providing more information on places in Nebraska.

Nebraska State Fair Day 4

1. The Nebraska Wheat Board was serving up chocolate chip cookies today and they were delicious as always like each year.

2. iCan the showbot. iCan is a robot that rolls around the state fair talking to people and playing music. iCan is representing Napa Auto Parts, so if you are at the fair and see iCan be sure to go up to him and say hi.

3. If you wan a real experience with fair food then you should defintely eat food from Topper Connessions stands.

4. Sand Castle carving, check out the tent by the commercial exhibit buildings to see professional guys carving sculptures out of sand.

5. See baby pigs, sheep, cows, chickens in the birthing pavilion. University of Nebraska-Lincoln vet students are on site to answer any an all questions about the baby animals.

Nebraska State Fair Day 3

1. Take a ride on a combine, whether you want to test ride or just ride one for fun, Case IH provides everyone the chance to ride a combine for free.
2. See some Sea Lions perform. The sea lions come all the way from California and if you want to you can get a picture of one them kissing you on the cheek.
3. The Slush Factory where you can get a slushy in a really cute cup. You can choose from a variety of flavors but my two favorites are lemonade and orange.
4. Nebraska Beekeepers Association. You can learn all about and see some actual live bees.

5. Play trivia with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Test your knowledge and see how much you know about the agriculture in Nebraska. Their booth is in the Exhibition building.

Nebraska State Fair Day 2

1. The Nebraska Wheat Board gives out free samples of cinnamon rolls that made with wheat. They are extremely delicious!
2. RFDTV set a guinness record today with having over 1,000 tractors in a parade. Great job and thanks to an old classmate of mine Kelli who works for RFDTV for the t-shirt and hat!
3. Case International Harvester is doing a hat swap so I swapped two hats and got a Case IH hat and a New Holland hat! I am sure my grandpa will like these.
4. I had one of my favorite treats from the fair and that is a chocolate nut sundae on a stick!
5. The Kearney Catholic High School marching band was my favorite band of choice from today. Their drumline’s cadence was awesome and I liked the little jig that he rest of the band did along to the cadence.

Nebraska State Fair Day 1

1. The Wilber-Clatonia Alumni Band did a fantastic job playing in the opening day parade.

3. Someone riding a big bull through the opening parade.

4. Eating the rocky road ice cream from the Ice Cream parlor.

Nebraska State Fair

The Nebraska State Fair begins this Friday August 24th and runs until September 3rd. I will be out there all week, so I will have a new blog each day with 5 things that I have discovered or have found interesting at the fair! I am excited and I hope everyone will have some time to come check out the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, Nebraska!

Nebraska Veterans Memorial

Recently Alliance, Nebraska developed a new Nebraska Veterans Memorial. The memorial is a cemetary grounds for veterans who have served time in the military. I was able to see this brand new cemetary a few weeks ago when I was out in Alliance and it is absolutary beautiful!

My dad’s side of the family grew up in Alliance and I still have plenty of family living there. My family had a bench made and dedicated to my grandma’s brother Edward Collins who served time, died in a war and is buried in the Phillipines. I have several family members of mine who have served, especially my grandpa. I am so proud of them and everyone else in this country who does serve their time.

The cemetary is still brand new so there is not a lot there, but it will be exciting to see everything that will be adding to the cemetary in the future. If you are ever up by Alliance be sure to stop and pay respects to our state’s veterans as a thanks for serving our country and protecting our freedoms.

Platte River State Park

Platte River State Park has never crossed my mind before this year, I always knew it was right off I-80 in the opposite direction of Mahoney State Park.  I have been to Mahoney State Park several times, but never Platte River State Park.  I took a little adventure to the park yesterday, my hopes was to go on a horse trail ride, but those ended at 3pm.  So, instead I went for a paddle boat ride around Owens Lake.  It’s not a big lake, but it was peaceful just being able to sit on a paddle boat and float for a little bit while I drank some ice tea.  There were a few families fishing around the lake, just hoping to catch a big fish of some kind.

I also learned that Platte River State Park is the first state park in Nebraska to have a open archery.  A good friend of my dad’s Roger Sykes was the one that pushed and convinced the state to open one at the park.  Roger is no longer with us, but the archery was placed in memory of his name.

Whether you want to come for a day or stay a few nights in a cabin with your family, I highly recommend that individuals and families take a little time out of their summer to come visit this state park.  I believe that park has a lot of opportunities for growth and can not wait to see what exciting things they will offer to guest in the next couple of years.  The staff I met were friendly and helpful and what to make sure you enjoy your visit.  I know I plan on going back soon in order to ride some horses and I hope I will be seeing you there as well!

My Scentsy Party

I am hosting an online Scentsy party now until August 20th. Scentsy makes great gifts, my favorite are the stuffed animals that you can place scent packets inside of them (great for a kid or baby room). They also have scents that you can hang in your car and sprays for the home. It is never to early to think about buying some Christmas gifts or if someone’s birthday is coming up. Everything this month is 10% off, so that makes it more of a reason to purchase them today!

Here is a link to shop through my party. Thanks!
