Nebraska Driving

One of the little things I have always enjoyed about living in Nebraska is driving down interstate 80 and other main highways. There is nothing more stress free than driving out in the country with wide open fields and herds of cattle every few miles. Driving gives me a chance to think and a time to rock out to music. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter where I end up and sometimes it makes an adventure better when you don’t have a set destination and can just get in the car and drive.

Blogging Resolution

I like what I have developed my blog into. I like my theme of traveling and talking about small businesses in Nebraska. My number one resolution for 2013 is to blog more than I have in 2012. I appreciate the support from everyone. If you have an event, small business or something about Nebraska you would like to share with me and would like me advertise it through my blog, please contact me and let me know.

Here is to a good 2013! Let’s keep Nebraska and America going strong with what we have already built.

Accents Home Decor

My favorite kind of gift giving is a gift card along with a little gift for the home or personal use. I have discovered a shop in Sidney, Nebraska called Accents Home Decor. They have a wide variety of cute gifts from WillowTree to baby gifts to decorations for the holidays.
Accents has so many cute things for either Christmas gifts or birthday gifts. I find a lot of the stuff they carry come from original and creative people that have their own small business making things for a home or gift buying. Not everything in the store is Nebraska made, but it is nice to see the creative things people create from other parts of the country.
Now that I live in Sidney I know I will be shopping at Accents more often for gifts and home decor!

17 Ranch Winery

If you are a wine lover then this is one place you need to put on your yearly bucket list. Located in downtown Lewellan, Nebraska there are about 6 different wines you can taste. My favorite was the chokecherry which I learned is a native fruit and not many wineries in eastern Nebraska make wines with chokecherry.

For only $20 I had to get myself a bottle. If you need a good Christmas gift or a good drink to take to a Christmas party then be sure to make it to Lewellan and get a bottle.

I had a pleasant afternoon chatting with the owner and she really makes her winery feel like you are drinking in the comfort of your own home.

Tis’ The Season of Shopping

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year! It is also the time of year that businesses make a lot of money. Everyday in December I would like to feature a small business, event or festival in Nebraska. If you know of any that you would like me to feature, please contact me.

Heritage Falls Candles

The other day while I was unpacking my stuff into my new apartment I came across my candles I got at Heritage Falls Candles in Falls City, Nebraska.

The shop is located in downtown of Falls City and sells more than just candles, I also picked up a couple of cute decorative pumpkins for the fall season. I hope I have time to go back and visit before Christmas because they had a ton of cute Christmas decorations for the house.

If anyone is ever looking for a good fundraiser then I suggest to give Heritage Falls a call, they do let you sell their candles for fundraiser purposes and candles make a perfect thing to sell because people always want them like cookies.

If you are ever near Falls City, make a stop at Heritage Falls. You will definitely like the scents as much as I love them.

Scottsbluff National Monument

My dad is a history teacher and ever since I was little I have always loved history, especially Nebraska history and learning about the Oregon Trail. Yesterday, while I was in Scottsbluff I decided to stop by Scottsbluff National Monument. There is so much history in the place about how the pioneers and would use the rocks as a landmark and stopping place along the Oregon Trail. In the visitor center you can view a short video that tells you all about the national monumentand walk a mile long trail while dialing in on your phone to hear a guided tour about the pioneers journey. You can also either hike up or drive up to the top of the rocks and overlook the city of Scottsbluff and countryside of Nebraska and Wyoming for miles. I know I enjoyed myself yesterday and plan on going back soon to enjoy a sunny day on the Oregon Trail!

Cellar 426

Back in August after I visited the Platte River State Park, I saw a sign for Cellar 426 winery in Ashland. Not having anything to do that afternoon, I decided to stop and enjoy a wine tasting.
The winery is brand new and just opened back in May of this year. The newly built building made the wining tasting a little more exciting, it’s kind of like the feel of getting to drive a brand new car. The structure, design and feel of the place made feel as if I was drinking wine in a cabin in Colorado (the only thing that was missing was mountains). I didn’t know what to expect first walking in, but there were a lot of people.
All the wines and labels have a signature look, which as an advertising graduate I believe is great for having a strong brand name. The look is more modern than other wineries I have been, I like their use of colors as well, colors always put me in a cheerful mood and when you are cheerful and drinking wine then it makes life feel great. My favorite wine was Lacrosse, which I had to buy a bottle to bring home, so if you make it to this winery then I recommend you try some.
I wish many joys to the owners of Cellar 426 and I foresee them doing many great things in the future of building the winery name in Nebraska. If you have never been to this winery yet but live near Ashland then I recommend you visit within the next month.

City Girl is going Country

I am sorry that I have been a little out of commission and have not blogged lately on the places I have visited. I was recently offered a job in Sidney, Nebraska at Cabela’s and I start on Monday the 24th so I am working on moving. I promise to get my other blogs posted as soon as I can, even if I must pull an all nighter. Thank-you for your continue support and I look forward to producing more good stories soon!
