The CoffeeBurger originated in Harrison, Nebraska and has made national television. It is returning to Nebraska at the High Plains Homestead Crookshack. If you love ice cream, then you will enjoy the homemade ice cream from The Platte Valley Creamery in Scottsbluff. The staff make sure that your ice cream is fresh and delicious. I had a peanut butter and chocolate malt, but if you would rather have a cone or a sundae then you can as well. Ice cream is good anytime if the year, so be sure to stop in and get your fixing!
The Potter Sundry in Potter, Nebraska is a small town cafe with an old fashioned soda fountain. It’s a cozy atmosphere to enjoy a good morning breakfast. The Sundry also serves lunch and if you save your appetite be sure to try a Tin Roof Sundae. The Tin Roof Sundae is a layer of vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, then a layer of chocolate ice cream with marshmallow and topped off with peanuts. Open Mondays-Saturdays 7am-5pm, this is a great place to enjoy some good food. I hope everyone will take some time to visit The Potter Sundry and see that it’s a unique place.
North of Kimball just off Highway 71 is Beehaven Farms. It is worth a stop to pick up some organic foods such as eggs, cheese and some granola. Beehaven Farms raises chickens, goats, lambs and bees. Yes, you read it right, bees. The owners make their own honey from the bees they raise and you can get a bottle in the store located at the center of their farm.
Beehaven Farms also carries other items in their store from local and state wide makers. You can pick up soy candles from Heritage Candles and some soap made from goat milk.
Not only did I pick myself up some granola and honey, but I got to meet and pet some of the animals. You can also check out Beehaven Farms at the Scottsbluff farmers market every Saturday in the summer. However, if you want the real experience of the farm you will need to make a trip to the roadside market and visit Miss. Beehaven.
Last Saturday, I met a friend in Kearney to have lunch at the Thunderhead Brewing Company. Thunderhead is a favorable restaurant and bar that brews their own beer. I had the honey wheat, while my friend had the Grand Cru. Just from how good my beer was, I believe any of their beers would be a good choice.
Thunderhead is more than just beer, it’s a great place to get some pizza or a calzone. My choice is the ThunderZone calzone; the mixture of chicken and alfredo sauce made it delicious.
Various places around Nebraska sell Thunderhead beer. Therefore, if you can’t make it to Kearney you can pick some up at one of the locations across the state to enjoy on a Friday or Saturday night.
I am a pizza lover and the past couple of years I have grown to love Sam and Louie’s pizza. It is a small pizza chain that started in Omaha, but has continued to grow. I respect the company for helping smaller communities in Nebraska to grow by placing restaurants in other Nebraska towns and not just Omaha and Lincoln. I moved to Sidney, Nebraska a few months ago and I was like a kid in a candy shop when I saw there was a location in town.
The pizza is thin crusted, which helps you taste more of the sauce and toppings and not a lot of bread. One of my other favorite things to get is their cheese bread with spinach dip. I love how the environment of the restaurant feels like you are in a pizzeria and not just any kind of food restaurant. Just like the downtown Sidney and downtown Lincoln location I think the brick gives the environment more vibes of feeling like you are in an old fashioned style pizzeria.
Sam and Louie’s can be found in these towns across Nebraska: Alliance, Beatrice, Blair, Bellevue, Elkhorn, Grand Island, Lincoln, Omaha, Seward and Sidney. Next time you are in one of these towns, I recommend you look up directions to Sam and Louie’s and go have a great slice of pizza for lunch or dinner.
I added a new adventure to my life: COOKING!
I am beginning to learn how to cook and bake delicious recipes. I believe at the same time it is teaching me not to eat out as much because the more I can learn how to cook and make a recipe makes me happy for the ability to complete the process.
Last week I made homemade monster cookies and tried a simple s’mores recipe from Family Circle.
This week I plan on trying an easy enchilada recipe and a chocolate cake recipe.
If anyone has a good ideas for something I should learn to make then please give them to me.
One of my goals for the summer is to be healthier and eat healthier. I will admit I have gained about 20 pounds since college and my goal over the summer is lose it all!
Today, I pushed myself to the limit. I did not eat out at all, no fast food!
A few things I am learning to do:
1. Not eat out; it will save me a lot of money.
2. Drink more water and juice; less pop or no pop at all.
3. healthier foods; cutting back on all the sweets I eat.
