Great Views and Tasty Wine

I have always loved a good country scene, it is always beautiful and peaceful. I went to Miletta Vista Winery this last Saturday. Not only do they have great wine, but they have excellent views of the country. The hills with a creek splitting them just reminds you of something you see on a travel show.

Miletta Vista is a short drive north of Grand Island near St. Paul, Nebraska. I recommend going for dinner, because the food is home cooked and simply delicious. If you are like me and drink dry wine, I would recommend a glass of the St. Croix. They also have a selection of semi-sweet wines as well.

Macovicka Winery

I had a great Memorial Day while being back in Lincoln.  On Sunday, I decided to take a little drive a visit a few wineries from my Nebraska Wine Passport.  Approximately 30 minutes north of Lincoln, Macovicka Winery is located in Brainard, Nebraska.

I sampled 5 different and added an extra one for fun.  Anyone that knows me will know how proud I am to be Czech.  Macovicka has a wine called Cervene Vino which is Czech for red wine.  The wine of my choice to bring home a bottle of was Pink Lace.  Pink Lace is a sweet fruit wine which would go great with deserts and chocolate.

Macovicka has a beautiful porch and deck that allows for a heavenly relaxation to sit outside on a sunny day enjoying wine.  I took time to sit on the porch for a while making conversation with other individuals visiting the winery on the same day.  I recommend to all my readers that have a free Sunday to enjoy an afternoon sitting on the porch at Macovicka while sipping a glass of wine.

Sage Hill Vineyards and Winery

On Saturday, I had an amazing day exploring southwest Nebraska. I went to Sage Hill Vineyard and Winery in Parks. The winery is nestled among the hills of southwest Nebraska. The owners are extremely welcoming and will take care of you like family. I enjoyed a tasting and we sat on the porch for at least an hour; sipping wine and making conversation. My wine of choice from Sage Hill is the Ewing’s Gold, it’s a sweet white wine that is great with either cheese or strawberries.

Sage Hill offers a bed and breakfast service with a room right above their tasting room. This is a great place for a couple to spend a night or two away from home. Sage Hill also has kayaks for rent and you have a great opportunity kayaking at Rock Creek Lake. June 15th would be a perfect day to visit Sage Hill Vineyard as they will be hosting a kayak race to help raise money for Park’s Community Center.

I hope everyone will take some peaceful time, make a drive and visit Sage Hill Vineyards and Winery for a delightful afternoon.

Feather River Vineyard

Last Saturday, I took a trip to North Platte to visit the Feather River Vineyard. I wish it would have been summer so I could see more green during my visit, but the wines I got to taste made up for not seeing the green. I tried 5 different kinds of wine; my favorite was the La Crescent wine. La Crescent is a sweet white wine that I recommend trying if you go to Feather River.

Feather River has a beautiful patio; sitting in one of their rocking chairs could make drinking wine feel as if you are drinking at home. I intend to go back this summer when it is greener so I can get a stamp for my Nebraska Winery Passport. Plan your trip to Feather River today, but if you can’t make it you can order bottles of wine from to be delivered. Check out their website at: http://www.feather-river.com/ for more information.

I am going to block out time on my calendar for their BBQ Barrel event that they host at the end of the summer. When I get more information on the BBQ Barrel event I will share that with everyone, because it sounds like something no one should miss.

Mac’s Creek Winery and Vineyards

Oh happy Friday, it’s a great night and I am enjoying a night at home with some in my glass that I got from Mac’s Creek Winery and Vineyards in Lexington, NE. I visited the winery back at the end of August and enjoyed my short visit.

Something that was different about this winery was how the vineyards came all the way up to their back deck. The green vineyards right next to their light tan building is beautiful. I believe it is a great place for a date, whether it is a first dance or a 25th wedding anniversary date, it is well worth the drive to Lexington.

I want to make a trip back to Mac’s this summer and enjoy an afternoon of sitting on their deck and drinking a few glasses of wine and I hope everyone reading this post will decide to join me as well!

Cellar 426

Back in August after I visited the Platte River State Park, I saw a sign for Cellar 426 winery in Ashland. Not having anything to do that afternoon, I decided to stop and enjoy a wine tasting.
The winery is brand new and just opened back in May of this year. The newly built building made the wining tasting a little more exciting, it’s kind of like the feel of getting to drive a brand new car. The structure, design and feel of the place made feel as if I was drinking wine in a cabin in Colorado (the only thing that was missing was mountains). I didn’t know what to expect first walking in, but there were a lot of people.
All the wines and labels have a signature look, which as an advertising graduate I believe is great for having a strong brand name. The look is more modern than other wineries I have been, I like their use of colors as well, colors always put me in a cheerful mood and when you are cheerful and drinking wine then it makes life feel great. My favorite wine was Lacrosse, which I had to buy a bottle to bring home, so if you make it to this winery then I recommend you try some.
I wish many joys to the owners of Cellar 426 and I foresee them doing many great things in the future of building the winery name in Nebraska. If you have never been to this winery yet but live near Ashland then I recommend you visit within the next month.

James Arthur Vineyards

After going to Branched Oak Farm on Thursday July 12th I went up the road to James Arthur Vineyards in Raymond. I have heard of this vineyard from some of my friends, but this was my first time visiting. The place is beautiful and I really liked the white building with a red roof design. There were several other people there for a Thursday, so that should tell you how popular the winery is.

I enjoyed tasting 6 different wines for only $5.00 and I got a free wine glass to take home. The six wines I tasted were: Lucky 13, Nebraska Red, Brianna, Edyn’s Blush, Heartland White and Sweet Charlotte. My favorite was Edyn’s Blush; it is a semi-sweet wine and it is smooth. For a snack I enjoyed some bread with salmon and dill cheese. I like how their bread is served warm and soft. The cheese they serve is made by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Dairy Store; it is always great when local business will serve or sell other local items.

If anyone ever needs a good gift for a birthday, wedding or Christmas then I recommend to check out all the gifts they sell. They had so many decorated wine glasses and other gifts that would be perfect for someone who loves wine.
